Showstopping Jewellery Moments from the 39th Anugerah Juara Lagu
Music to the ears

The international awards season is in full swing. With new contenders coming out of left field each day, it is easy to get swept up by the excitement heading into Oscar night. That said, it is not an excuse to overlook our homegrown talent. The season of recognition is just as thrilling here. Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL) returned for its 39th edition last Sunday and it marked yet another milestone in the country’s music industry. Held at Axiata Arena, the annual competition saw late-bloomer Marsha Milan Londoh and songwriters Ikhwan Fatana and Wan Saleh claiming the top honour for their song Hening Rindu, taking home RM100,000 and a trophy.

Bringing more than her fire-breathing voice to the stage, Marsha wowed the audience with her selection of jewellery. The Sabah-born singer donned a crystal cocktail ring and drop earrings by Swarovski—a vision similarly shared by Ernie Zakri who bagged the Best Vocal hardware. Sporting a heart-shaped cocktail ring and a multicoloured pendant-brooch from the same brand, Ernie effectively used the pieces as an extension of her performance. Nadeera Zaini, the first runner-up, made a memorable AJL debut with a between-the-finger diamond ring and ear cuffs by local jewellery brand Ceres.

Some of the biggest jewellery moments of the night came from those who were not in contention for the coveted prizes. Opening acts Shiha Zikir and Wani Kayrie, for instance, dazzled the crowd with both their showmanship and taste in jewels. While the former opted for traditional ear cuffs, the latter went with ultra-modern rings and earrings whose sinuous lines formed sculptured designs. Amelia Henderson made an unmissable cameo at the event, turning up on stage for Amir Masdi’s performance, giving her bejewelled ear spikes some deserved airtime. Co-host of the evening, Sissy Imann, also did not disappoint with her glamorous chandelier earrings.
