Inspired by his own journey of healing from burns and the toxic comments on social media, Olivier Rousteing’s AW22 collection for Balmain explores the idea of safety. Light and delicate touches combine with symbols of security and strength—powerfully protective wraps, shields and gilets—to emphasise that there is protection in truth and transparency, collective empathy and shared hopes for progress.

Nicolas Ghesquière presents a collection that highlights nostalgia and the youth for AW22. From striped rugby shirts and oversized shoulders on jackets and blazers to men’s ties and wide-leg trousers, each look modelled down the runway displayed a borrowed-from-the-boys aesthetic. “The impermanence and beautiful volatility of adolescence.
