The new Les Essences de Diptyque collection marries the tangible and the fantastical through nature’s finest materials. Here’s a deep dive into the full set of offerings.
It is no secret that nature has long inspired the fragrance industry. Master perfumers have employed the use of botanicals and natural extracts in their creations for centuries, and the art has only continued to innovate as the years have progressed. That said, while notes of rose, citrus and tobacco have distinct fragrances, some facets of nature simply could not be bottled—until now.
The new chapter in Diptyque’s ever-evolving repertoire is a celebration of nature’s most elusive elements, created by master perfumers Fabrice Pellegrin, Alexandra Carlin, Nathalie Cetto, and Olivier Pescheux. Coral, mother of pearl, tree bark, water lily and the desert rose are not elements traditionally associated with any particular scent, yet somehow, the maison has managed to translate the image of each of these natural elements into five precious Eaux de Parfum.
As is true for all Diptyque creations, formulation is just the beginning. Staying true to the house’s long-standing commitment to marrying the art of fragrance with that of poetry and illustration, the fragrances have been bottled in flacons and packaging decorated with designs by Irish artist Nigel Peake. The artist’s interpretation of each fragrance is realised through watercolour on paper, with compositions that hover between realism and fantasy, condensing each element to its purest essence. The bottle itself blends eco-friendly practices with sophisticated aesthetics to create a visual and olfactory masterpiece that marries luxury with responsibility.

Corail Oscuro EDP 100ml, RM1519
How does one capture the essence of coral? In Corail Oscuro, it’s a considered blend of mandarin, rose bourbon and a warm, salty mineral accord. The fragrance’s name is a reference to the fiery vermillion hue of its subject and the dark, sprawling depths of the sea bed—and the potent, lingering sillage captures this exquisitely.
Ingredient Focus: The mandarin peel used in Corail Oscuro has been cultivated in Madagascar by local communities and processed in the traditional way without mechanical methods. It is entirely traceable, biodegradable and renewable.
Lunamaris EDP 100ml, RM1519
Timeless, elegant and indisputably luxurious, mother of pearl is one of nature’s most magnificent gifts. This fragrance is a celebration of this iridescent gem, using luminous rockrose, spicy pink peppercorn and warm incense to illustrate the form of a shimmering pearl.
Ingredient Focus: The Andalusian rockrose used in Lunamaris has been cultivated by local growers for over 30 years. They leave their fields to replenish their precious stock of cistus shrubs naturally and avoid plucking shorter branches to ensure a renewable harvest cycle that can be sustained for years more to come.
Bois Corsé EDP 100ml, RM1519
Bois Corsé is a play on words, which is what has inspired the unique combination of notes in this addictive fragrance. “Écorce” is French for “bark” and “corsé” means “full-bodied”, which is why intense black coffee absolute and sandalwood are the stars in this EDP. The resulting scent evokes the picture of tree bark, from the textured forms on the wood to the weathered shapes on its surface.
Ingredient Focus: Bois Corsé uses Australian sandalwood, also known as Santalum spicatum, to achieve the delightfully milky, woody facet in its sillage. This particular strain is cultivated on Aboriginal land in partnership with a foundation that protects the natives and new trees are planted each year to ensure the regeneration of the natural ecosystem.
Lilyphéa EDP 100ml, RM1519
Lilyphéa draws inspiration from Claude Monet’s celebrated Water Lilies series, taking it from canvas to flacon seamlessly. Fresh cardamom, green violet leaves, resinous galbanum and soft vanilla meld together to paint a picture of the flower’s delicate leaves floating on glittering pools.
Ingredient Focus: The responsibly sourced and Ecocert-certified Madagascan vanilla in Lilyphéa is entirely traceable with direct access to the growers. In addition, programmes have been put in place to promote rural development in the surrounding villages, spanning education and food security.
Rose Roche EDP 100ml, RM1519
Within the vast plains of the desert lies a delicate, crystalline formation known as the desert rose. It’s not a flower—instead, its fragile mineral petals are shaped by the wind. The house’s interpretation is a subversive rose-based scent that uses the contrast of radiant lemon and earthy patchouli to carve out the image of the rose within the sandy dunes of the desert.
Ingredient Focus: The Sicilian and Calabrian lemons used in Rose Roche have been hand-picked from private groves in Italy. They are renowned for their unique facets developed from the volcanic environment in which they are grown.
