How a ‘lunchtime laser’ completely changed the way I view skin treatments

It’s 2018, so why are we still cringing at the thought of laser treatments? Long story short, our impressions of lasers are largely tainted by horrific tales, which usually end in graphic face-scarring or skin-burning, which I am the first to admit, have kept me laser-free, until now.

Lifesaver #1: SKINFIXTM Laser & Light Treatment

Time required: 15 minutes

So, are lasers really as scary as they’re made out to be? Or are we just not asking the right questions or speaking to the right people? I put one to the test and my honest opinion is that SKINFIXTM at glo Laser Centres was quite the eye-opener.

Non-invasive

Using only FDA approved lasers from the USA, SKINFIXTM is completely non-invasive, which means it doesn’t break or damage the skin. Instead, it deep cleanses, lightens pigmentation and acne scarring, brightens the skin, reduces fine lines and reverses the signs of ageing over time. Basically, everything my mid-30s skin is due for.

Quick and effective

It only takes about 15 minutes with zero downtime and minimal aftercare. Huge bonus – the laser vaporises dirt and bacteria from deep within your pores without the need for painful extractions!

Sustainable

Bar the occasional (very slight) stings from the laser and some brightness from the intense pulsed light, I find the treatments get more comfortable as you go and definitely worth the results you can quite quickly notice. It also helps that glo makes it easier to sustain a beauty plan by making laser treatments accessible and affordable.

Lifesaver #2: Guinot Cover Touch Concealer

Time required: 15 seconds

With experience (ok, and age), I prefer multi-tasking products that go the mile for my skin. This little overachiever claims to conceal skin imperfections and heal blemishes in one go – here’s the verdict:

I like that the formula blends and conceals pretty well, but because it also contains Unicover powders, which feature antiseptic properties to stop bacterial growth and help absorb excess sebum, I experienced slight dryness although it did help with calming skin redness for a more even complexion. Perfect for on-the-go touch-ups and to freshen up between meetings.

Tip: Apply an eye cream before concealing the under-eye area to avoid over-drying the skin. A moisturising primer or make-up base also goes a long way before dabbing Cover Touch onto the affected areas.

Guinot Trainer, Sandrine Carliez shares her tips for a mid-day touchup:

Step 1: Gently blot the face with tissue paper to soak up excess oil.

Step 2: Dab concealer and blend with a drop of moisturiser on the back of your hand and gently tap to reapply over the face or areas with blemishes and redness.

Step 3: Spritz a face mist for added hydration to finish.

Lifesaver #3: The Blacquer Eye Set by Marc Jacobs Beauty

Time required: Under five minutes

So, I may have re-stocked twice since its release because I was a tad obsessed with my first set. Most days, I try to keep my makeup to a minimum, so my skin can enjoy some downtime. That said, a bit of eye makeup is excessive said no one ever, and having this in my bag is a lifesaver to say the least.

On low-key days, I dot the liquid eyeliner between lashes just to ‘wake-up’ the eyes – it has really good staying power and rarely smudges so I don’t have to freak out when I accidentally rub my eyes.

For a spontaneous catch-ups, I step it up a little by gliding the gel crayon along my upper lash lines. I like a more lived-in look, so I find gently smudging the liner with my fingers help soften the look for the perfect natural finish – mascara optional. Even comes with a cool purse-sized slate mirror for beauty emergencies or quick touch-ups.

Marc Jacobs The Blacquer Eye Set comes with a mini deluxe size Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara, a full size Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner and Magic Marc’er Precision Pen Eyeliner, RM231 from Sephora
