#BuroBeautyDesk: The best blurring powders and foundations for that second-skin finish

Find yourself relying way too much on beauty apps to filter out every pore, pimple and iota of line on your face? Before you get heavy-handed on the airbrushing tool on your go-to app, why not try skin-smoothing makeup for a subtlely flawless finish? You can still ace that high-definition complexion without resorting to distorting literally blurring your entire face out—because trust us, your FaceTune handiwork definitely shows on your pictures, and if @CelebFace‘s tea-spilling feed is anything to go by, let’s just say that we’ll be sticking to real-life methods of touching up our faces.

This month, our favourite skin-blurring makeup on the #BuroBeautyDesk is all about giving your skin a filter IRL:

Sisley Blur Expert

Sisley took inspiration from Ultra High Definition technology used in film and photography for the ingredients in this powder-like compact. Its skin-melting formula has spherical polymers, emollient agents and hydrophilic pigments to capture and reflect light in all directions, ensuring that the skin gets a smoothing effect with a texture that adheres perfectly without wearing out.

Three fun ways to wear this: 1) Swipe on your bare skin for a radiant result; 2) apply after foundation to set makeup, or 3) use it as a makeup touch-up throughout the day.

Marc Jacobs Accomplice Instant Blurring Powder

Want to look as gorgeous as Priyanka Chopra on wedding and as flawless as Nikkie de Jager in her beauty tutorials? Use what they’re using—the latest skin-blurring powder by Marc Jacobs Beauty. Pearl pigments help diffuse and filter away the visibility of imperfections, while its texture is lightweight enough to set and finish makeup, and even touch-up and reduce shine without caking up your makeup. Extra points go to the chic, built-in magnetic brush for easy sweeping.

Benefit Cosmetics Hello Happy Velvet Powder Foundation

If you’re looking for something more buildable but has the mattifying properties of a setting powder, try Benefit Cosmetics’ latest addition to the Hello Happy foundation range. This powder foundation has shea butter extracts to give skin a smooth, natural-matte finish that can last for up to 12 hours. We like that the mirrored compact comes with two custom applicators—a brush and sponge—for different purposes.

Tip: Brush on the foundation for lighter coverage or to set your liquid foundation. Use the sponge for medium to full coverage, or for touch-ups.

Three Pristine Complexion Powder Foundation

If you want sufficient coverage without dulling your complexion (read: you can’t resist an illuminated finish), go for Three’s two-in-one powder foundation that works both ways. The fine-textured Slender Matte foundation is made of holistic skincare ingredients that doesn’t mar the integrity of your skin, while the Slender Glow highlighter is perfect to illuminate your features for a dewy effect. Apply the former followed by the latter and be prepared to see healthy-looking skin that’s well-moisturised to boot.
