5 Foolproof makeup solutions for every late-riser
You can leave the house without a hair in place (that’s what a top knot is for) but *not* without these makeup bag essentials

There are days when the last thing you want to do early in the morning is work on a full-face, makeup look—and we get it. What matter is how you make the most out of your makeup products, whether it’s five-minute makeup solutions to get you ready for that meeting, or on-the-go tricks that you can even sneak in between traffic lights (note: always ensure your parking brake is on before attempting to whip out your cosmetics bag).

In case you’re feeling smarmy but don’t want to spend a chunk of time on acing a cat eye, here’s how you can look put-together in no time:

Let your eyes pop under a minute: Chanel Le Volume Revolution De Chanel

“New shades alert! Four new and super wearable colours (Jungle Green, Intense Teal, Volcan and Deep Eros) just joined the brand’s first 3D-printed mascara brush series—I put No.91 Volcan straight to work on my long 12-hour day and here’s what I discovered.”

Long-wear claim, check. The polymer film kept my mascara in place the entire day (without touch ups) and only started smudging a little on my lids well past the 12-hour mark.”

Single stroke perfection, check. If you sweep it straight up, you might still some clumps, which doesn’t do this mascara justice. The trick is to apply in zigzag motion from root to tip—I used two coats—it was clump-free and had good staying power. Also comes right off with my micellar water makeup remover, too easy!” – Terry Saw, Editor-in-Chief

Touch up your skin: Marc Jacobs Accomplice Concealer & Touch-Up Stick

A good concealer in my books is one that offers creamy coverage and ease of application and this new drop by Marc Jacobs Beauty checks both boxes. Gliding it on is easy breezy—it leaves quite a layer of formula on the skin with just one swipe, and it offers full coverage even on the most uneven parts of my skin. I like that the fun-sized stick comes with a concaved surface (like a U-shape)—supposedly to fit your finger in case you’re more hands-on with concealer application.”

“It definitely blurred the appearance of pores and imperfections but one must-do is setting it right after to prevent caking or drying out. I did spot some creasing after a couple of hours but there’s nothing a good setting/blurring powder can’t do in this case. ” – Loh Wei Yeen, Beauty Editor

Even your complexion out: Nars Natural Longwear Cushion Foundation

Just because you have limited time to work your foundation into the crevices of your face doesn’t mean you can’t. Cushion compacts are your biggest saviour at times like these—try the new Nars Natural Radiant Longwear Cushion Foundation. The highlight of this new formula is that it’s able to protect the skin from UVA/UVB rays and environmental pollution, while giving you coverage that lasts up to 16 hours.

What packs a punch is the ingredients used—white water lily extracts and a blend of raspberry, apple and watermelon to increase skin’s resilience and to give it a brighter, more radiant finish.

Ensure your glow’s down pat: Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette in 002 Glitz

“Dior’s new addition to the Backstage collection is a highlighter palette that offers ‘extreme radiance’ with a vibrant finish. Made for those who cannot get enough of bronzers and highlighters (with options!), the Backstage Glow Face Palette is great for sculpting features to illuminated perfection.”

“I’m more partial to cream highlighters, but I find myself reaching out for this palette time and again since I started using it. The powder formula is ultra-fine, so much so that the brush doesn’t seem like it’s picking up enough product. But the colours translate to a rather beautiful finish on the skin—very subtle, radiant, with shimmery and holographic accents that are more discreet than your usual high-beam Insta-ready highlighters. Tip: Use the peach as a blusher and pearly white with gold to highlight the highest points of the face.” – Loh Wei Yeen, Beauty Editor

Tint your lips: M.A.C Cosmetics Shot of Colour Lip Oil

“Lipsticks in the traditional bullet cases are not my go-to when I don’t have the time (or hands) to whip out my compact mirror. That said, even liquid lipsticks can get messy when it comes a quick glide of colour on the lips. So when M.A.C Cosmetics’ latest lip oil—the successor of the Hint of Colour Lip Oil that was launched two years ago—came through with 14 shades and a colour-saturated formula, I was excited to see how it’d fare.”

“First thought: the colour payoff is definitely more pigmented than the predecessor (and for a regular lip oil!) But unlike that of a lip gloss, the texture isn’t tacky so you don’t have to worry about the whole hair-sticking-to-your-lips sitch when it’s windy out. My lips felt adequately moisturised even after a couple of hours (the formula has a combination of hydrating oils), and my favourite way to wear it is to blend the colour with my fingers/lip brush for a bee-stung or Korean-inspired ombré effect. Go for Punch-Drunk Love, a peachy pink hue, if you prefer the MLBB look.” – Loh Wei Yeen, Beauty Editor
