Short hair don’t care
Earlier this year, Park Seo-joon made headlines after flaunting his short ‘do in Itaewon Class. Termed the ‘chestnut hair‘, it seems to be the shortest hairstyle he has rocked, and dare we say that he pulled it off easily.
Perfect for those who are a little more adventurous than the rest, shorter hairstyles—ranging from Caesar undercuts to crew cuts (as seen on Yoo Ah In in Chicago Typewriter)—are favoured for good reason: 1) It’s low maintenance, 2) minimal styling is required, and 3) you don’t even need a hair dryer! While Lee Seung Gi’s subtle V-shaped crop may not be for the faint-hearted, Park Bo Gum’s hairstyle in Record of Youth is the perfect example of a timeless do.

Bringing back curtain bangs
Curtain bangs are taking centre stage (pun unintended) this season. While the 5:5 part (middle part in short and long variations) has proven to be a classic look, the 3:7 part seems to be a firm favourite as well this season. Exo’s Sehun and former Monsta X member Wonho have sported the former recently, while actors Lee Dong Wook and Lim Ju Hwan’s tousled ‘dos are giving us lessons on the importance of volume.

The bowl cut gets choppy
We’ve seen the bowl cut transition to the two-block cut (undercuts with a longer top) previously, but this quintessential hairdo has been reinterpreted once again with shaggy layers and longer tops. When we say long, we mean that the ends practically conceal the brows and may just poke into the peepers—think of it as thick bangs, but with an edgier crop. Kim Soo Hyun’s shorter cut in It’s Okay to Not Be Okay is our favourite, while Lee Jae Wook, Ong Seong Wu and NCT and Super M’s Lucas have donned longer face-framing styles.

The longer, the better
Whether the quarantine mane or the comeback of the mullet, medium-length hairstyles have been on our radar most recently and Korean stars are all for it. Woo Do Hwan and BTS’s Jungkook showed off their 5:5 parts—albeit with longer ends—effortlessly, while Ji Chang Wook’s mullet for his role in Backstreet Rookie is proof that party-at-the-back ‘dos are here to stay. A noteworthy mention is Ryu Jun Yeol’s dedication in growing out his hair for an upcoming movie role.
