The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) held their annual awards ceremony celebrating the best in the industry just last night, with A-listers and designers making the fashionable throng of people at the Brooklyn Museum in New York City. Key highlights include Jennifer Lopez clinching the prestigious Fashion Icon award, Gigi Hadid and Virgil Abloh stealing the pink carpet limelight in monochromatic looks—the former in Louis Vuitton menswear, naturally, and Barbie (the doll) taking home the Board of Directors’ Tribute.
Celebrities gave their 110 percent when it comes to beauty choices, making statements with lengthy locks and pretty pouts to match their looks. A couple of trends we spotted on the pink carpet: 1) ribs-skimming hair lengths of all sorts—Gigi Hadid and the Olsen sisters with messy waves, J. Lo (a super high ponytail) and Ciara (a head full of locs); 2) a throwback tribute to hairdos of the past—voluminous curls on Bella Hadid and Martha Hunt, and Winnie Harlow’s blunt bob with bangs.
Makeup wise, sprightly lip colours and eye makeup were on many celebs’ moodboard this evening. Supermodels Elsa Hosk and Feifei Sun stunned with electric pink lips (keeping the rest of the makeup simple); Emily Ratajkowski and Lily Aldridge went with a classic red lip, while Laura Harrier turned heads in a brick-red lip hue that complemented her red dress. Shailene Woodley’s graphic eye in shocking orange is giving us life, and Yara Shahidi did the opposite with neutral eye makeup (letting her abstract hairdo take centre stage).
