Punk meets kawaii-cute: M.A.C x Nicopanda

M.A.C Cosmetics is known for its string of fun collaborations with talented creatives across the entertainment industry, but this time around, it’s bringing new meaning to punkish cute with a brand new collection in partnership with Nicola Formichetti. The Italian-Japanese fashion director is known for his unique yet subversive ethos, most recently serving as artistic director at Diesel and previously Mugler as creative director. A frequent collaborator with Lady Gaga, Formichetti adds his signature street culture meets high fashion aesthetic to the M.A.C x Nicopanda collection.

“The inspiration for me was to create something that was new and different and focuses on creativity and diversity all the while being playful and fun … I’m half Asian and half European, so it was important to me that this collection delivered a little bit of east and a little west,” says Formichetti. Expect streetwear palettes in playful pastel hues from the lineup, alongside a seriously cute panda icon imprinted on each item — a clear inspiration for the designer who intended for it to be a symbol of creativity and diversity.

If you’re a fan of kitschy makeup shades that come with fun names, this collection is up your alley. “I desired to create something that could go from day to night. Something that was fun and funky for the person who wants to take their makeup to the next level, but something that also works for someone who wears minimal makeup. The mix of colours is so couture,” says Formichetti.  Explore five new lipstick shades ranging from out-of-this-world mint green to bubblegum pink, full face palettes in pearlescence shades and even lip glass in the most radical colours — bright blue-pink, navy, and even lavender — to make a head-turning statement.

M.A.C. x Nicopanda drops in stores and online April 2018.
