Beauty bucket list: Trends you must try at least once in your life

While there’s nothing wrong with sticking to what works, there are a few beauty trends we think all women should try at least once in their lives. And here are five of them that you need to try, starting… now!

Coral Lips

Loud lips are huge right now but if you prefer a subtler effect, opt for a juicy coral gloss instead. Make sure you tone down the rest of your makeup, especially around the eyes, so it doesn’t clash with the vibrant shade of gloss. Don’t forget to conceal any redness on your face, like near the nose, chin and forehead. This is essential whenever you use coral tones.

Sorbet Nails

Nothing perks up the mood like a change of nail polish shade from dark and subdued to flashes of colour that look good enough to eat. Unlike nude or baby pink, it’s easier to see mistakes when using sorbet tones. Without overloading the brush with polish, start with one thick stroke down the middle of the nails and then do a stroke on their side.

Severe Side Part

The bangs had its share of glory, but it’s the extreme side part that is edging up to be a way cooler sister-trend. Move your part right on over for a chic updated look. Work a small amount of volume styling mousse through wet hair. Choose a side and side sweep it using a wide-tooth brush. Finish with a spritz of hairspray to hold it in place.

Smoky Smouldering Eyes

A little something special for your girls’ night out, or that fancy dinner date. Line the outer half of your upper and lower lash lines with a true black liner. Then, use the rubber end of the liner or a cotton bud to smudge the colour out, creating a flawless smoky eye. Apply a little extra eyeliner to deepen the colour. For extra-luminous peepers, rim the inner lash line with a highlighter. Finish with several swipes of volumising mascara.

The Beachy Lob

With a smooth crown and textured ends, this shoulder-grazing cut give off a cool-girl vibe. Capture that ease by working with day-old strands. Liberally mist hair with salt-spray then flip your head down and blow-dry with a diffuser to build volume. Run a 1-inch flatiron over small sections and twist the tool to create S-shaped bends. Rub styling cream into the waves to give them a choppy, lived in look.
