6 Eye makeup trends from SS18 to emulate

STEP INTO SPRING

Embrace a slew of contrasting hues by way of your favourite spring colours. Combine two of the season’s most popular colours — pink and yellow — in a romantic manner over the upper eyelids. Remember to blend, blend and blend for a seamless, pigmented look and to prevent harsh lines between both hues.

ARTISTIC STROKES

If dual-toned eyeshadow doesn’t tickle your fancy, pull off neon brights in abstract strokes for an avant-garde look. Swipe a vivid orange over your upper eyelids and extend it outwards. For added drama, intensify certain spots with a wet eyeshadow to give it a textured effect.

Use: Make Up For Ever Wet Paint

BRING THE BLING

There is nothing quite like Swarovski-studded eyes to best reflect the shimmering disco lights in a club. If you’re down for making a sparkly statement, go with rhinestone-dotted eyes seen at Dries Van Noten (and most recently, Prada AW18). Carefully place Swarovski crystals along your upper and lower lids in a linear fashion.

THE-DAY-AFTER SMOKEY EYE

Can you tell that this season’s all about embracing the beauty in imperfection? The smokey eye is toned down this time around with a less aggressive finish and a more smudged effect, seen at Giorgio Armani and Marchesa. Some tips to look more grunge-chic and less raccoon-eyed include 1) use a gel liner to line the lashes and smudge it gently with a brush, and 2) add a pearly/metallic eyeshadow over your eyelids and blend well for more depth to your makeup look.

Use: Chanel Les 9 Ombres Exclusive Creation Eyeshadow Collection

A KILLER CAT EYE

Up your eyeliner game this season with a bold cat eye that will render you double takes from a mile away. Take inspiration from Marc Jacob’s full-on makeup look — models sporting cat eyes that complement their individual eye shapes — with the help of a pigmented gel eyeliner. Fill in the cat eye gradually from the inner corners of the eye outwards, then use a liquid eyeliner to draw over the cat eye for a dark, dramatic finish. Tip: Arm yourself with a dozen of Q-tips to clean up smudges and imperfections.

THE GLITTERATI

Celebrate the magical, whimsical and out-of-this-world with all things sparkly and glittery this SS18. Glitter was out in full force on the runways — case in point, models at Stella Jean repped silver holographic glitter on the eyelids that intentionally swept up towards the brows in an imperfect way for a spontaneous effect. An easy way to turn heads in any party.
