1 – 11 August, Sh/ft—A Visual Contemporary Art Exhibition @ Black Box and White Box, Publika

This exhibition raises the profile of our homegrown talents by giving them a platform to create awareness, showcase and sell their unique works of art, while cultivating a new generation of art lovers in the country. It features 176 artworks by 42 established and emerging Malaysian artists as well as explores the theme of change surrounding Identity, Pop Culture, and Technology.

8 10 August, The Silly Little Girl and the Funny Old Tree + The River of Life @ klpac

The first play is Theatre for Young People 2019’s take on a Kuo Pao Kun classic, ‘The Silly Little Girl and the Funny Old Tree’ whereas the second play is a devised piece that asks the ensemble to question, excavate, and design a Kuala Lumpur, that is their own. Both plays feature original soundscape and music.

8 11 August, Mr. Wolf by Rajiv Joseph @ Rooftop Theatre, Sunway College

Mr. Wolf explores the inner spirals—both the beautiful and ugly—of a young victim of kidnapping. The play also looks into a family’s heartbreaking attempts to reconnect, head, and rebuild their world as a result of the incident. Take note: all audience will be seated on the floor.

8 – 28 August, Illegitimate by Unamed Collective @ Zhan, Jaya One

The artworks are diverse, spanning from traditional painting styles to new mediums such as virtual reality and wearable art. Three different expressions of illegitimacy, including the illegitimacy of identity, the illegitimacy of non-human voices, and the illegitimacy of the controlled versus controller will be on display.

16 18 August, Fa Abdul’s Tales from the Scars @ klpac

This is a collection of 10 intimate monologues often buried within layers of complexities, including Brown Man in a Hood, The Widower & his Pubic Hair, and Forbidden Fruit.

21 31 August, Dust and the Silence in the Sun @ Wei-Ling Contemporary

Cheong Kiet Cheng’s third solo exhibition with the gallery touches on the question of how the spirits in our world relate to the rest of the universe. This series is a study of black ink—creating monochromatic visuals by exclusively using one type of media.

23 29 August, Light by TerryandTheCuz @ klpac

It is the story of two generations of adventure, betrayal and ambition and how the irreversible impact of their actions, continue to resonate today. Light stars Malaysia’s First Lady of Jazz and multiple Cameronian award winner Junji Delfino, award-winning filmmaker, actor, theatre director and writer Gavin Yap, as well as well-known actor and theatre director Arief Hamizan. It is written & directed by Thomas Henning.

The play gazes upon a family seeking normalcy in the aftermath of a cataclysmic event. In their newly distorted world, they struggle to piece together the fragmented ideas of nation, religion, and morality that once existed.
