Now at the Yuz Museum, Shanghai: ‘The Artist Is Present’

In the fast-paced digital age that we live in, it has become exceedingly rare to find anything that is completely original anymore. That might sound despairing, but Gucci ignites conversation on the contrary in its new exhibition —’The Artist Is Present’. Titled after Marina Abramović’s 2010 iconic work of the same name, the exhibition explores how originality can be achieved through the act of repetition, and how originals themselves can be preserved through copies.

It’s a fascinating subject to tackle, to say the least — Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele is famed for his compelling creations that draw inspiration from a myriad of references after all.  Consciously staged in a city infamous for counterfeit luxury, ‘The Artist Is Present’ showcases works from over 30 artists that revolve around the themes of originality, intention and expression.

Here, take a virtual walk through some of the many rooms that consist of ‘The Artist Is Present’ in Yuz Museum, Shanghai:

Of course, nothing will beat experiencing the exhibition in person. If you’re headed to Shanghai in the near future, slip this in your to-do list.

‘The Artist Is Present’ runs until 16 December 2018 at the Yuz Museum, Shanghai.
