Trailer reveals, remakes, sequels, spin-offs, and more—Disney’s biennial D23 expo is every fan’s dream! From 9 to 11 August, the entertainment and production company revealed major updates and announcements about fan-favourite IPs.
From James Cameron’s Avatar and Incredibles 3 to upcoming projects, here are the biggest reveals from Disney D23 2024 that we can’t wait for.
Agatha All Along
With Disney+’s Agatha All Along releasing next month, the hype around the streaming platform’s latest series cannot be any higher—well, until D23 decided to release new footage of the witchy show! In the trailer for the WandaVision sequel series, campiness and horror ensues as Kathryn Hahn reprisesher role as Agatha Harkness to recover her lost powers and form her own coven of witches. The series will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on 18 September 2024.
Moana 2
Everyone’s favourite island princess is back as Auli’I Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson introduced the trailer for Moana 2. Set three years after the first film, Moana and the demigod Maui team up to face a new threat on the horizon. Catch the sequel when it premieres on 27 November 2024.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
D23 welcomed Jude Law’s debut into the Star Wars universe with the trailer for Disney and Lucasfilm’s Skeleton Crew. Set during the New Republic era after Return of the Jedi, a group of young kids find themselves galaxies away from home and meet Law’s character, a Jedi named Jod Na Nawood. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew comes to Disney+ Hotstar on 3 December 2024.
Mufasa: The Lion King
D23 took a trip to the Pride Lands as they revealed the trailer for the prequel film Mufasa: The Lion King, featuring a new Lin-Manuel Miranda original song. Telling the famous story of Mufasa and Scar, this live-action adaptation will follow how their relationship came to be and how one lion rose to become the Lion King. The movie will premiere on 20 December 2024.
Snow White
This live-action film has been riddled with controversy since its early development which caused it to stay in production hell for a good portion of the year. Finally, Disney unveiled a teaser trailer which gave us first looks at Rachel Zegler as the classic Disney princess, Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen and the heavily CGI-ed seven dwarves. Snow White comes to theatres on 21 March 2025.
Percy Jackson Season 2
The Son of Poseidon returns. At D23, a teaser was unveiled for the second instalment titled Sea of Monsters and the cast reveal of the Gray Sisters: Sandra Bernhard as Anger, Kristen Schaal as Tempest, and Margaret Cho as Wasp. In season two, Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood to find that his world has turned upside down. To set things right, he must venture into the deadly Sea of Monsters, where a secret fate awaits him. The show is currently in production so hopefully, we’ll get to see it soon!
Lilo & Stitch

Another highly anticipated live-action adaptation is the beloved Lilo & Stitch—and boy, is that little blue alien looking as adorable as we remembered! Stitch AKA Agent 626 tore through the Disney logo screen, gave his signature laugh and crawled away. Fans can anticipate the furball and Lilo in the summer of 2025.
Zootopia 2
Key Huy Quan is joining the animated world of Zootopia! The Oscar-winning actor will voice a snake named Gary. In the sequel to the hit Pixar film, bunny and ambitious cop Judy Hopps and former con artist fox Nick Wilde are back to solve another mystery, this time focusing on Zootopia’s sea creatures in a new area called Marsh Market. Zootopia 2 premieres on 26 November 2025.
Avatar 3

One of the biggest reveals of the night was when James Cameron, Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña took to the stage to announce the official title of the next Avatar film, which is now called Avatar: Fire and Ash. Switching the focus from water to fire, Cameron explains that “fire can represent hatred, violence, trauma, possible misuse of power” while “ash represents the aftermath of all of that energy, which is grief and having to live with what you’ve done.” Concept art of the Ash People of the Na’vi was also revealed, inspired by Native American ghost dances. Fire and Ash hits theatres on 9 December 2025.
Inside Out TV series
Riding off the huge success of Inside Out 2 which grossed over $1 billion worldwide, Disney has announced that the film will be getting its own spin-off TV series. Titled Dream Productions, it will still be based on Riley and set between the two films when she is around 12 before her high school days. The show will come to Disney+ Hotstar sometime in 2025.
Freakier Friday
Speaking of title announcements, Freaky Friday stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis appeared at D23 to reveal the name of the sequel—Freakier Friday! The sequel will follow the mother-daughter duo Tess and Anna Coleman as Anna and her daughter prepare to marry into a new family. Original cast members such as Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Haley Hudson, and Rosalind Chao will return. Freakier Friday is planned for a 2025 release.
Incredibles 3

This news had us buzzing in our seats because who doesn’t want more Incredibles content? Brad Bird, the writer and director of the film series, came onto the stage to announce that Incredibles 3 is currently in production. That’s all the information Disney has so far but we’re crossing our fingers for more Jack Jack this time round!
Frozen 3
If Frozen 2 had you wishing for more, you’re in luck because D23 confirmed not just a third instalment but a fourth as well! Creator Britney Lee took to the stage to show the concept art for Frozen 3 which featured Elsa and Anna riding horses. There is no release date yet but we hope it’s soon!

Another beloved film franchise that’s getting love is Toy Story. For the fifth instalment, director Andrew Stanton revealed that it’s going to be a battle between toys and tech as Woody, Buzz and the squad go up against electronics to stop their new owner from turning into an iPad kid. The animation is looking at a release date in summer 2026.
Tron: Ares
That’s right, Tron is coming back! In a surprise announcement that no one saw coming (the first was in 1982 and the 2010 follow-up was a box office bomb), Disney has decided to revive Tron with a star-studded cast. Featuring Evan Peters, Jared Leto, Greta Lee and the iconic Jeff Bridges, audiences will return to a futuristic world set inside a computer mainframe on 10 October 2025. Leto stars at the titular Ares, an advanced AI sent to the real world on a secret mission.
