The ‘Lord of the Rings’ cast is coming together for a lockdown reunion

One reunion to rule them all.

Amazing news for Lord of the Rings buffs—we will be seeing fan-favourites such as Gandalf, Legolas, Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee and more very soon. Fortunately though, the team does not have to defeat an evil foe like Saruman again—instead, the Fellowship is on a much more heartwarming quest that will still no doubt, save the world from their despair in prolonged self-quarantine.

Josh Gad (you will recognise him as the voice of Olaf from Frozen) is using his friendship connections to amazing use as part of his Reunited Apart series on YouTube. He has brought back the cast of classic films such as The Goonies and Back to the Future together again—and now, the Lord of the Rings cast will answer his call in arguably the biggest Zoom reunion yet.

For many of us, this is a dream come true to have the star-studded cast back together again after *checks notes* 17 years since The Return of the King. Who better to lift our spirits than the rambunctious hobbits, wise wizard and brave warriors of Middle Earth? Everybody say thank you, Josh Gad.

The trailer has some amazing fanservice including Elijah Wood quoting Frodo’s line, “I wish this Ring [choice] had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.”

But the biggest treat of them all is when Sir Ian McKellen himself makes his appearance, showing that a wizard is never late and arrives precisely when he is meant to—and delivers a punch line to boot. If you remember Gandalf’s iconic line (and even if you don’t), McKellen channels his inner Gandalf once again with the line, “All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you” in his signature brooding elegance over Lord of the Rings music. Cue everyone freaking out and crying while Sir Ian McKellen casually sips his wine.

Dom Monaghan fanned the flames with another teaser of the Zoom reunion on Instagram yesterday:

In it, we see even more of the cast joining the reunion such as Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn), Sean Bean (Borimir), Andy Serkis (Gollum), Liv Tyler (Arwen), director Peter Jackson and more.

The long-awaited reunion with the cast of the legendary Lord of the Rings franchise premiered on 1 June (Monday) at 12am. Watch it here if you missed it!
