The latest updates on P. Diddy’s arrest

No celebrity is in a bigger spotlight than Sean “Diddy” Combs AKA P. Diddy after he was arrested on 16 September at a New York City hotel. The hip hop mogul turned disgraced rapper is currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn without bail on federal charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has been accused of using his fame, money and power to coerce his victims to partake in sexual activity during what he called his ‘freak off’ parties and filmed these incidences as sexual blackmail.

His arrest comes after a slew of damning lawsuits have been brought against him in the past year, with some accusations spanning as far back as the 1990s when he launched his label Bad Boy Records. The most high-profile being his ex-girlfriend and R&B singer Cassie, who accused the rapper of trafficking, and sexual and physical abuse throughout their decade-long relationship.

Federal agents with US Homeland Security first raided the rapper’s Los Angeles and Miami homes back in March as part of an ongoing investigation into the allegations against him. According to the indictment, authorities had recovered narcotics, ammunition, more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant, and evidence aligning with the ‘freak offs’ mentioned by Diddy’s victims.

Diddy, 54, has maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. His lawyer March Agnifilo shared on 17 September that his client is eager to speak in court to give his side of the story. When asked about the 1,000 bottles of baby oil, Agnifilo disputed the number and claimed that Diddy could have bought it in bulk from several Costcos nearby. The warehouse chain has since stated they do not sell baby oil in bulk.

Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi to star in new Wuthering Heights adaptation

buro malaysia pop culture news

In what is set up to be another A-list project, Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi have been tapped as star-crossed lovers in Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights. Per a Deadline exclusive, Robbie will star as Catherine while Elordi will take on the role of Heathcliff in Emily Brontë’s classic 1847 novel.

Both actors have close connections with Fennell in the past—the filmmaker made a cameo in last year’s Barbie as the pregnant friend to the eponymous doll while Elordi starred in Saltburn, which Fennell wrote and directed.

However, the casting choices have sparked several criticisms about the adaptation. In the novel, Heathcliff is described as a “dark-skinned gipsy” and was abandoned as a baby in Liverpool’s slave port. His race is also an important factor in the novel as he faces prejudice from his adopted family. Therefore, netizens expressed disappointed that Heathcliff was not portrayed by an actor of colour. Other criticisms included concerns about Robbie’s age as Catherine is a teenager in the novel while the Australian actress is 34 years old.

Regarded as one of the greatest pieces of gothic literature, the original novel explores the passionate and tragic love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, the family’s foster son. Plot details about Fennell’s adaption are unknown at this time.
