In memory of Leonard Cohen – his greatest hits

“There is a crack in everything. That’s how the lights get in.”

Leonard Cohen was a legendary singer and songwriter, whose musical career spanned five decades. In those years, he wrote a number of songs that have poetic themes of religion, love, depression, suicide and even polictics and war. His repertoire was not surprising considering he did give up a literary career as a poet and novelist to become one of the best songwriters this world has ever seen.

The artist had a way with beautifully crafted lyrics that captivated his listeners in his tunes of “erotic despair”, a phrase as described by his record company in the 1970s. Over the years, more than 2,000 recordings of his songs have been covered in various ways including rock, pop, R&B and country.

The world may have lost one of our most prolific artists but Leonard Cohen lives on in his songs. Let’s celebrate his legacy.

Rest in peace, Leonard Cohen.
