Accessory of the day: Giambattista Valli’s AW19 marabou-fringed heels

On Giambattista Valli’s moodboard this season were images of Claude Monet’s idyllic gardens in Giverny, the voyeuristic, sensual photographs of Guy Bourdin, and the free-spirited women of Paris. “It’s about living without restrictions and free from conventions,” the designer told Vogue backstage. This translated into tulip-hemmed dresses and frothy gowns with high-low trains painted in dreamy Impressionistic florals intertwined with the likes of fringed leather jackets, patent trousers and boxy cropped silhouettes. Accompanying many of the floral concoctions were strappy sandals extravagantly doused in marabou feathers, swishing across the floor with a sense of lightness and attitude befitting of the aforementioned free spirits. The question is, how does one resist the urge to twirl in them every few seconds?
