The 4 best moments from London Fashion Week AW20

The second leg of Autumn/Winter 2020 is done and dusted, but before we dive into the magic of Milan, below’s a recap of some of the most talked-about moments we loved, from a fashion house’s commitment to sustainabilty to ultra-sweet family moments.

1. The Beckham clan

You can always expect the whole Beckham clan to come out in full force to show their support for Victoria at her show every season, and this round, it’s no different. The family—sans Brooklyn—sat with big smiles as they cheered the designer on, alongside David and Victoria’s mums who were also at the show.

2. Tommy Hilfiger takes over the Tate Modern Museum

Tommy Hilfiger’s traveling show lands (back) in London this season as the brand presents its fourth collaboration with Lewis Hamilton, and for the first time, a unisex collection with American singer-songwriter H.E.R. As the brand celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, the collection featured a wide range of streetwear looks in graphic and neon accents that were a reminiscent of the past, contrasted with nautical elements and modern tailoring. The brand also planted a surprise this season with a Naomi Campbell cameo, much to the showgoers’ delight.

3. Burberry goes carbon neutral

Burberry was one of the most raved-about brands this London Fashion Week for several reasons. Firstly, its usual high-profile cast of models are back on the runway this season, including Gigi and Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Joan Smalls, Irina Shayk and more. The supermodels were dressed in creative director Riccardo Tisci’s varied takes on the fashion house’s iconic check motifs, from sartorial three-piece pantsuits to sultry slip dresses to librarian-chic ensembles. But the most noteworthy thing is its sustainability efforts this season. Its AW20 show was certified as carbon neutral—carbon emissions have been offset, and on top of that, the fashion house is also developing a Regeneration Fund that allows them to manage the environmental impacts of its operations, starting with a partnership with PUR Projet to introduce regenerative agriculture practices in their supply chain. Kudos to Burberry!

4. Lena Dunham’s runway debut

It’s not fashion week without some star appearances, but a trend we’ve been seeing since New York? Celebs on the catwalk. While Miley Cyrus modelled for Marc Jacobs, 16Arlington tapped Lena Dunham to make her runway debut at its show. The designers Marco Capaldo and Kikka Cavenati met the actress when they made her custom dress for the premiere of Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, and decided to invite her to walk their first runway show (the brand previously only staged presentations). Her look? A flouncy mini dress with a one-shoulder leather bodice.
