LFW SS15: Osman

Inspired by a love letter written by Frida Kahlo to Diego Rivera, the British-born designer saturated his SS16 collection with symbols from her work, recreating the Mexican artist’s painting ‘Tree of Life’ with a bejewelled tree motif that festooned garments as well as tied in with the tree sculpture situated the back of the catwalk.

Alongside his sculptural silhouettes which took the form of flamenco tiered ruffles, oversized pleats, gaucho-esque belts as well as exaggerated Andalusian hats, the Central Saint Martin’s graduate juxtaposed this against cleaner designs, such as crisp white shirts, column dresses, circle brooches and tailored trousers.

Aside from womenswear, Yousefzada took the opportunity to debut his menswear capsule collection by presenting a selection of suits influenced by Ruben Toledo that coalesced with the feminine ensembles through the use of monochromatic and bright hues as well as bold ikat prints.
