PFW AW20: All the black-and-white looks that were elevated to new heights

If the 2020 Pantone Colour of the Year—Classic Blue—is any indication, the colour trends have shifted to a more muted palette as of late, and we’re all for it. At the AW20 runways, an array of brands followed suit by sending down looks in black and white, but one thing’s for sure—what lacked in vibrancy was made up for with their cuts and silhouettes. After all the striking finale get-ups from New York, the bold and beautiful ensembles from London, and Milan’s power pantsuit that will make anyone feel strong and powerful, the monochrome tones are definitely a refreshing way to end Fashion Month on a trés chic note.

As expected, coats were aplenty for the Autumn/Winter season, and we loved the array of selections that were sent down the runways, from Chanel‘s tailored tweed piece to Miu Miu‘s sleek leather outerwear to Ralph & Russo‘s oversized draped trench. On the other hand, there were also sultry pieces that radiate that feminine, sensual allure too. Elie Saab‘s intricate gowns, for instance, are some of the most stunning dresses we’ve seen this season, as well as Mugler‘s sheer numbers that accentuate curves like no other. For the trendy minimalists, Dior‘s borrowed-from-the-boys tailored pantsuit, Hermès‘ sleek leather dress, and Kenzo‘s languid coat are the perfect looks to lust after, but if making a strong statement is what you’re going for, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Isabel Marant, and Rick Owens‘ takes on the puffy shoulders trend this season will bring your look to new heights, literally.
