Everything You Need to Know About the Hermès Kite Festival in Kuala Lumpur

Long before the Birkin or the Constance, there was the Hérmes silk scarf—bold, expressive, and quietly iconic since 1937. More than just accessories, these vibrant squares of silk capture the Maison’s craftsmanship in every fold, instantly transforming any outfit with a single knot or twist. The cultural significance of these scarves runs so deep that, in 2022, Hermès launched the Kite Festival in Indonesia as a playful tribute to the silk scarf’s lightness and grace.

This May, the skies above Kuala Lumpur will join the celebration, following earlier editions in Busan, Dubai, and Buenos Aires. On 17 and 18 May 2025, Sentul Pavilion will host the Hermès Kite Festival, filling the air with movement, colour, and craft.

Expect to see prints like ‘Plumets et Panaches’, ‘Robe Légère’ and ‘Sur Mon Nuage’ take to the skies, transformed into kites that twist and glide with the wind. Bandanas and shawls—they’re all reimagined as flying works of art, swirling alongside the House’s silk collections in a windswept performance.

There’s plenty to do beyond gazing upward. At the kite workshop, you can build your own flying creation from technical fabric printed with signature scarf motifs. Whether you’re going solo or joining forces with friends, expect to become an aerial engineer in under an hour—designing colourful shapes that catch the wind and take flight.

There’s also a flying school for those eager to learn the art of kite flying, where beginners can master guiding their silk kites—launching, landing, and soaring again and again.  Once you’ve caught the wind just right, take part in the friendly races and see how your creation fares in the open sky. And then comes the spectacle: synchronised aerial choreographies by professional kite flyers, weaving shapes and stories through the air in a mesmerising display of skill and artistry.

The Hermès Kite Festival runs from 10AM to 8PM. Entry is free with registration—sign up here.
