Breaking: A Uniqlo collection by J.W. Anderson is in the works

For a fashion purveyor that shares a market space with high street powerhouses, Uniqlo has drawn quite the distinction with timeless staples that defy fast fashion. Their impressive roster of collaborative alumni considered, the brand has stayed true to what they do best—functional Life Wear—regardless of the supplemental influence. From Carine Roitfeld and Jil Sander, to Christophe Lemaire’s Uniqlo U label, the creative input of each is manifested in application only through the honest reworking of classic items.

J.W. Anderson for Uniqlo was announced at global press preview held in New York City earlier today. The partnership with the Japanese fashion chain adds to Anderson’s string of projects which include his eponymous line, and creative directing for Spanish leather goods and ready-to-wear label, Loewe.

Anderson elaborates, “Collaborations are incredibly important in design. When I think of Uniqlo, I think of things that are perfectly made, that people have spent a lot of time considering. It’s a difficult job, and I think Uniqlo does it very well. Working with Uniqlo is probably the most incredible template of democracy in fashion, and it’s nice that my design can be accessible to anyone, on all different levels.” On top of that, expect a touch of British heritage to inspire the coming Fall collection for both men and women that will bear the award-winning designer’s mark.

“In partnering with J.W.Anderson, one of Britain’s most innovative and creative brands, we will tap into traditions while pursuing progress in designs and fabrics, to craft styles that are enduringly appealing,” said Yuki Katsuta, Senior VP of Fast Retailing Co.Ltd., and Head of Research at Uniqlo.
