The new Disney x Coach collection has villainous undertones and it’s nothing like you’ve seen before

Coach is making us rethink our favourite childhood Disney characters this season with its second collaboration with the American conglomerate. If you were expecting sprightly hues and cutesy silhouettes that the brand rolled out for its debut collection two years ago, you might be surprised at the new direction it’s taking this time around. In line with Coach’s Pre-Fall 2018 collection, the special edition Disney x Coach: A Dark Fairy Tale collection carries darker undertones that’s a far cry from the Disney ideals we had in mind — executed via a spooky, romantic vibe that brings to mind an American gothic fairy tale, centered in New York. 

“I have always loved Disney – both the movies and the fantasy worlds created that have captured my imagination for many decades. It was fun to explore the darker side of these stories and mix Disney’s nostalgic charm with Coach’s creativity to bring my memories from these fairy tales to life within our world of accessories and ready-to-wear. The Disney spirit truly reinforces the new youthful perspective we are bringing to luxury at Coach,” says Coach Creative Director Stuart Vevers. 

Expect your all-time favourite classic Disney Princess tales with a subversive twist, including motifs from Sleeping Beauty and the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (that have been reinterpreted for an edgy look) decked on Coach’s iconic bags such as the Dinky, Duffle and the Rogue. Backpacks and totes also take on a similar aesthetic, and one of our favourites is a fanny pack embellished with Disney-inspired patches. The ready-to-wear collection also sports the same graphics, from lace embroidered leather jackets to statement tees and sweaters — spot an exclusively designed storypatch that was made for this collection!
