Grammys 2020: What the celebs wore to the red carpet
The biggest night in music kicked off with the 62nd Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Following Hollywood's finest at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards, it was high time for the musicians to take centre stage.
Ariana Grande waltzed in on the red carpet in a ruffled tiered ballgown by Giambattista Valli. What ultimately sealed the look was the silver satin elbow gloves. Could this be a trend in the making? After Zoë Kravitz donned a pair last week at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, all we need is a third occasion in the upcoming award season to seal the deal. We'll put our money on spotting another at the Oscars next month.
Lizzo was a vision in white in a beaded sweetheart neckline Versace gown. The extravagant fur stole heightened her look with a dose of ‘50s glamour. Lil Nas X kept to his signature Wild Wild West persona in a studded hot pink suit, also by Versace. The pointed shoulders added a sartorial spin to the cowboy ensemble but what's most interesting was the bondage harness worn underneath. (You may recognise the belted straps from Gianni Versace's iconic dress he designed for his sister Donatella. Cindy Crawford famously wore an iteration at the MTV awards back in the ‘90s, and most recently her daughter Kaia Gerber wore a shorter hemlined version for her 18th birthday).
More favourite looks from the night include Billy Porter in a sparkling sky blue leotard, with matching bolero and hat by Baja East. The legs of the leotard were decorated with crystal fringe that also dangled off his oversized hat. Porter's stylist Sam Ratelle revealed to E! News, that the fringe on the hat opens mechanically. "There's a clicker I've been holding as I trail down the red carpet, and every time he gives me the signal to open the hat, the hat opens mechanically!".
