Fernanda Ly takes a (mariachi) subway ride for Kate Spade New York’s summer campaign
Riding high

What better way to welcome the sweltering joy of summer in a big city than with a mariachi band in a subway ride? Kate Spade New York had that exact idea in mind for its latest Summer 2017 campaign, featuring a digital images and a short film shot at the New York City Transit Museum. Bringing the artful flair of Mexico City to its home base New York, the campaign reflects Mexican influences such as piñatas, cacti, carnations, hummingbirds, and the like. It also sees the return of candy-haired model Fernanda Ly (her debut for the brand was for the Spring 2017 ads) as the quintessential Kate Spade New York girl—riding the subway on a hot summer day as she basks in the joyful sounds of Flor de Toloache, an all-female Mariachi band.
“This season, we are about joyous, personal self-expression, and as always, we find the extraordinary in the everyday moments right here in New York.” – Deborah Lloyd, Kate Spade New York President and Chief Creative Officer.
