Chanel’s 2023/24 Métiers d’art campaign explores the versatility of tweed

In December of last year, Chanel took over Manchester to showcase its Métiers d’art 2023/24 collection. For one night only, Thomas Street underwent a glamorous metamorphosis into a runway adorned with 72 ensembles, with tweed—the hallmark of the Maison—reigning supreme. Today, Chanel brings the collection to life through a series of photographs by Mikael Jansson. The lively, pop-inspired campaign encapsulates the spirit of the show, marrying ‘60s vibes, dynamic musical energy and elegance with a hint of mischief. Lulu Tenney, Loli-Bahia and Alaato Jazyper shine as the muses of the campaign, embodying contemporary femininity.

When exploring the modern tableau vivant, the Chanel allure emerges through the sharp lines of suits, coats and jackets. Each ensemble is artfully accessorised with tweed caps from the renowned halter and milliner Maison Michel, paired with the delicate embellishments of camellias by Lemarié. What also commands attention is the vibrant colour palette that illuminates the diverse potential of tweed. Whether it’s the apple-green jacket, intricately trimmed with braid and croquettes by the skilled artisans at Paloma, or the lilac jacket boasting luxurious silk cuffs, it’s evident that the tweed suit is constantly evolving, embracing reinvention and innovation.

More importantly, the campaign shines a spotlight on the ongoing dialogue between Virginie Viard and the Métiers d’art, as they seamlessly exchange ideas drawn from the House’s Creation studio. This collaboration is more than just a partnership: it’s a celebration that pays homage to the legacy of historic fashion, the finesse of savoir-faire, the artistry of craftsmanship and the unapologetic strength of femininity.

In tandem with the campaign, Sofia and Roman Coppola have crafted a short film that not only encapsulates the festive spirit and creative dynamism of the city but also provides a glimpse behind the scenes of the Manchester show. Watch the video below.
