4 New bars in KL to help usher in the weekend

Biru San

The lot beside APW Bangsar’s Kaiju Company-a Japanese and Thai fusion restaurant-is finally occupied, up and running. Started by the folks behind Kaiju, the alfresco craft beer bar has a Japanese leaning as its moniker suggests. Pick your poison from an extensive list that includes (but is not limited to) notable names from Japan while you munch on small plates from the kitchen nextdoor.

Address: APW Bangsar, 29, Jalan Ring, 59100 Kuala Lumpur

Opening hours: Tues to Fri (4.30pm-12am), Sat to Sun (3pm to 12am)

BOTAK: Liquor Bar

This one is no garden watering hole. Rooted in a botanical concept, they keep their drinks grounded in pure spirits and local produce. Botak: Liquor Bar is yet another fresh concept by a familiar name-it sits atop sister café Chocha Foodstore on a quiet stretch of Petaling Street. Don’t miss out on interesting concoctions such as the “Starfruit and Daun Kari” or “Bunga Kantan and Pumpkin”.

Address: 156, Jalan Petaling, Kuala Lumpur

Contact number: 03-2022 1100

Opening hours: Tues to Weds (3pm-11pm), Thurs to Sat (5pm-1am), Sun (3pm-11pm)

Bottle Haus

Less novel, more staple; Bottle Haus on Jalan Telawi is well-stocked with reputable labels; encompassing a list of cognac, gin, whisky, vodka, wines and beer. They also pride themselves as the Klang Valley’s first self-service bar. A menu of light bites is availlable to accompany your night while you unwind and relax in the woody, warm space.

Address: 34, Jalan Telawi 5, Bangsar Baru, Kuala Lumpur

Contact number: 017-239 6015

The Rum Bar

Once word got out that the country’s largest selection of rum will be landing at Changkat Bukit Bintang, it’s said that people started rolling their hips in the Cuban motion. Permeating a distinct downtown vibe but maintaining an oasis-like demeanour amidst the hubbub, this is the spot for a proper immersion into one of the world’s finest spirits: rum—and 250 labels of it, no less.

Address: 47, Changkat Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur

Contact number: 03-2110 3678

Opening hours: Sun to Thurs (4pm-1am), Fri and Sat (4pm-3am)
