1. Cafe Yamatatsu, Old Klang Road

Wooden elements live beautifully in harmony in this new restaurant in Kuala Lumpur.—paying homage to Japanese culture. Fans of anime will be able to explore shows such as Naruto, Slam Dunk, and One Piece as decor. Try the Taiwanese mee suah with pork slices or skewers as well as their noodles. The rustic spot specialises in hearty Japanese and Taiwanese dishes; Cafe Yamatatsu also serves a collection of house-made pickles—including yuzu bitter gourd and bonito-spiked brinjals.

2. Ms. Wong, Bukit Bintang

Calling all enthusiasts of buns and tea—it's time to rejoice! There's a new parlour in town that specialises in these goodies. There is an assortment of fresh baos for you to try, such as the Phoenix Bao (pan-fried smoked duck). Ms. Wong also serves heavier dishes like the Teri-Cheeky Don with marinated chicken thigh cubes, capsicums, and onsen egg; as well as Malaysia Bowleh (Home-made sambal, crispy anchovies, hard boiled egg, crispy fried chicken, and Japanese white rice). As for tea, one of their signature blends is Fruit of Eden (including a blend of apple, rose hips, and rose petals). Don't forget to get your Instagram shots with Ms. Wong's beautifully decorated interior.

3. Oh Cha Matcha, TTDI

A new specialty matcha spot will open its doors on 16 March! With matcha sourced from Uji, Japan, you can only expect high quality indulgence. What's unique here—apart from its massively Instagram-mable pastel interior—is that you get the matcha in a variety of concoctions. Oh Cha Matcha is operated by the same team behind Garage 51.

4. Yakiniku Yui, Kuala Lumpur

Up for some premium quality Japanese wagyu beef? Yakiniku Yui's the right spot for you. This new Japanese restaurant in KL is the first of its kind in Malaysia that purchases whole cattle. Hence, patrons get to experience a plethora of cuts. Feast on the Awa beef—an A5 grade wagyu beef.

This no-frills cafe in KL serves hearty meals such as pasta, desserts such as the Rose Lychee Cake, and drinks like iced black with whipped cream. Starman Coffee is the go-to neighbourhood cafe.

6. Hartton Kitchen, Damansara Utama

Welcome to Rice Bowl Central Hartton Kitchen. They specialise in decadent and hearty rice bowls—all topped with soft and fluffy scrambled eggs. Varieties include the Teriyaki Salmon, Pounded Lemongrass Chicken, Mentaiko Salmon and Avocado, as well as Buttermilk Chicken. They also serve sandwiches here—from Roasted Chicken Breast to Smoky Bacon.
