1. BIDOU

Kicking off the list is perhaps one of the most exciting new restaurants to grace the KL food atmosphere this April 2025. Bukit Damansara welcomes French bistro Bidou, who arrives with a major name in the industry behind it: Darren Teoh. The decorated chef of Dewakan fame has taken it back to his classical French cooking roots with this new opening. Unlike its two Michelin-starred sister restaurant, the menu here pays homage to the culinary greats of Lyon (think Paul Bocuse and Michel Guérard) instead of the culinary tapestry of Malaysia.

The space is both refined yet inviting, complete with witty Bibendum posters on the wall and porcelain dinnerware on the tables. Ordering may seem simple with diners only having to choose between two menus: a RM377 nett four-course and a RM290 nett three-course—but don’t be deceived! The real challenge is selecting the dishes that will fit into your meal, such as a salade gourmande, pâté en croûte, and beef tongue with pommes Darphin

Address: 9, Jalan Setiakasih 5, Bukit Damansara, 50490, Kuala Lumpur

Opening hours: 6pm until late (Wednesday to Monday)

2. THE INDUSTRY

Another new arrival on the Bukit Damansara food scene is The Industry, a chic gastrobar made for everyone at The Five @ KPD. By day, it’s a reliable spot to grab lunch and your dose of caffeine. By night, it turns into a buzzing spot for cocktails, hearty plates, and more. The menu is diverse, taking inspiration from all corners of the globe, so there is bound to be something that will catch your eye (and palate). We like the sound of its fish tacos, Wagyu beef kofta, stir-fried “noods”, seafood bisque pasta, and Argentinian Angus ribeye.

Address: Lot GF-01, Ground Floor, Block D, The Five @ KPD, Bukit Damansara, 50490, Kuala Lumpur

Opening hours: 11am to 11pm (Sunday to Wednesday) | 11am to 1am (Thursday to Saturday)

3. KAPPA KAISEN IZAKAYA

Kappa Kaisen Izakaya, brought to you by the Sushinosuke Group, rounds off the trio of new openings in the Bukit Damansara neighbourhood. Ready to transport you back to that Japan trip you miss (or are fantasising about), the menu is filled with classic izakaya fare from lush sushi platters and sizzling plates of sausages to soulful fish soups and a selection of katsu. However, if you’re keen on making your meal a little more interesting, you can also pick from its selection of sushi tacos, which are already a crowd favourite.

4. SAKURAGAWA BY YAPPARI SAMURAI

Sakuragawa by Yappari Samurai is Bangsar’s contribution to the new izakaya train of the month, run by chef Nishimura and his team. With a focus on the classic comfort food of the Shizuoka region, the pork-free menu oozes with soul. Expect home-cooked dishes such as the regional favourite of enshuyaki, a rectangular version of the iconic okonomiyaki completed with a layer of minced chicken or Wagyu beef. Those who have a soft spot for oden shouldn’t miss out on the restaurant’s rendition of the dish. Plus points for getting the seal of approval from Sushi Oribe’s sushi master Nao too!

Raise your glasses to La Lune, PJ’s latest bar in Section 17. Launched by the team from NICE Bistronome—located just downstairs—and Chateau Dionne, the bar’s moody interiors set the scene for its charming cocktails and unpretentious bites. A shining star on the menu is the signature Lala Tong, the bar’s own ikura-riddled rendition of the Cantonese classic dish of clams, superior broth, and wolfberries. Other must-haves are its truffle siew mai and crispy fried chicken thigh, served with a garlic yoghurt sauce. As for drinks, try its Boston Lala cocktail, made with a base of kombu-infused sake, Shaoxing wine, house ginger syrup, and a bird’s eye chilli tincture.
