Breast Cancer Awareness Month: 6 Ways to show your support in KL this October

 

There are about 1.38 million new breast cancer cases each year; approximately 458,000 deaths—according to the World Health Organization. Regardless of race, gender, or creed, breast cancer is by far the most common cancer in women worldwide. Every October, countries across the world, including Malaysia, mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The objective—increase attention and support for early detection and treatment as well as palliative care.

Thousands of organisations all around the world highlight the importance of awareness through education and research. According to Breast Cancer Now, “it’s important to get to know how your breasts normally look and feel so it will be easier to spot if there are any unusual changes for you”. Here in Malaysia, National Cancer Council Malaysia (MAKNA), National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM), and Breast Cancer Welfare Awareness Malaysia (BCWA) are just some of the parties involved in support of the collective cause.

1. October Afternoon Chari-Tea, Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur

In collaboration with National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM), the hotel will be running a unique spin on the classic Afternoon Tea offering at Altitude all month long. October Afternoon Chari-Tea features a variety of classic, savoury, and sweet favourites. Expect Lobster Grissini, Foie Gras Terrine with Smoked Duck Breast, and Smoked Salmon with Herring Avruga Caviar among others. Furthermore, 10 percent of all proceeds will be channelled towards NCSM for the sponsorship of women from low-income households to undergo mammogram screening at NCSM centres. 2. Chocolate DIY To Sweeten Your Pinktober, Harriston Signature Cheras

Harriston’s DIY workshop is an introduction to the art of chocolate-making packed with discovery and hands-on experience. You get to mould and temper chocolates, coat and decorate them with paint and sprinkles as well as bring home the chocolates you made. This is also a great chance for breast cancer patients and survivors to meet and socialise. This is the first collaboration between Harriston Chocolate and Breast Cancer Foundation. Featuring Chocolate Lollipop, Harris the Orangutan, and Custom chocolate pralines, the Chocolate DIY Module is priced at RM55 per person.

3. Pretty In Pink Afternoon Tea, Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur

Four Seasons Pink Afternoon Tea

In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the hotel has launched a special afternoon tea menu at The Lounge. The spread features delights such as Smoked Salmon Mousse with red pepper blini, Ispahan Macaroons filled with rose-infused raspberries, and Cranberry Scones with clotted crème. Priced at RM158 nett per person, every RM10 will be donated to the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA).

4. The Pink Afternoon Party, W Kuala Lumpur

This hi-tea set consists of a pink-coloured medley of both sweet and savoury offerings including Inari Sushi with Sakura Denbu and Trout Roe Pearls, Smoked Eel Custard with Caviar and Pink Tapioca Cracker, Earl Grey Tea Opera, Rose Lychee Macaron, and Cape Gooseberry Scones. The Pink Afternoon Party is priced at RM208+ for two and available everyday this moth from 3pm to 5pm. In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the hotel is joining hands with National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) by launching the Majestic Orchids collection. The proceeds from the sale of the flowers in October will be donated to the NCSM. Prices range from RM50 to RM250.

6. Pink Afternoon Tea, Mandarin Oriental KL

Mandarin Oriental KL is also doing their part this month with 10 percent of proceeds going to Pink Ribbon Wellness (L) Foundation. Available until 21 November 2019 from 2.30pm to 6.30pm daily, the Pink Afternoon Tea is curated by Executive Pastry Chef Antony Hoyle. Feast on froster berliner with vanilla custard, berry yoghurt cheesecake, Thai cured salmon with sweet chilli mayonnaise, scones, and more.
