There’s a new member to the family of Mercedes-Benz Dream Car Collection and it’s just as shiny, sporty, intelligent and incredibly luxurious. The all-new E-Class Coupe, for starters, sports a sleek and athletic silhouette, exhibiting a surface-accentuated design with reduced lines and sensuous forms.
Its big personality is matched with a significantly bigger interior space for everyone that sits in the car. Compared to its predecessor, it’s wider (1860mm) , longer (4826mm) and taller (1430mm). Passengers will equally enjoy the extra spaciousness and comfort in terms of the rear knee room, front and rear shoulder room as well as rear headroom. Long journeys-approved.
On the note of its interiors, all four seats are dashed with an avant-garde yet luxurious sense of style, taking its cue from the sedan. In conjunction with the AMG Line, there is the option to choose very sporty, highly contrasting leather interiors in black/classic red or black/deep white—all with horizontal seams. Rest assured that the exterior paint finishes will harmoniously be attuned to the modern interior colour schemes.
At the front of the driver-passenger seats area is the Widescreen Cockpit that appears to float in space and features two brilliant 12.3-inch displays with a high resolution of 1920 x 720 pixels that is unique in this segment. For the convenience of the driver however, there are touch control buttons in the steering wheel so he or she never need to take a hand off the wheel while on the road. As usual, the additional controls come in the form of a touchpad with controller in the centre console which recognises handwriting and has the Linguatronic voice control system.
Another intelligent digital feature that you will appreciate is Command Online. This means full smartphone integration into the system’s infotainment is possible. Say goodbye to fumbling with cables as compatible mobile phones can be charged wirelessly and is able to be connected to the vehicle’s exterior aerial. Using Near Field Communication, the smartphone can also be used as a digital vehicle key—lock, unlock and start the car with your phone.
Now to the car innovations and assistance systems. The new E-Class Coupe is equipped with most of the familiar ones such as Active Brake Assist and Dynamic Select. The Multibeam LED headlamps might seem like a minor detail but other drivers on the road will be appreciative of it. Each headlamp—fitted with 84 individually activated high-performance LEDs—can automatically illuminate the road surface with a hitherto unsurpassed, precision-controlled distribution matching the road conditions and settings—all without dazzling other road users.
If you’re wondering what the suspension is like then we have two words for you: Agility Control suspension with passive, selective damping. Although it is noteworthy to point out that it is 15 millimetres lower than on the Saloon for the sake of a sporty look yet guaranteed comfort.
Time to dish the numbers. Two variants are available at launch (all equipped as standard with the 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission and has a 4-cylinder engine) with details as per below:
– The E 200 Coupe AMG Line, with 184 hp and 300 Nm of torque, that’s capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in 7.8 seconds. The price (OTR w/o insurance but inclusive of GST) is RM435,888.
– The E 300 Coupe*, with 245 hp and 370Nm of torque, can do 0-100km/h in 6.4 seconds. The price (OTR w/o insurance but inclusive of GST) is RM499,888.
*For more exclusivity, the E 300 Coupe is also available with Edition 1, limited to only 555 units worldwide. It combines the AMG Line and Night package with 20-inch AMG light-alloy wheels in exclusive designo cashmere white magno paint. The price (OTR w/o insurance but inclusive of GST) is RM534,888.
