If you love a car with good storage spaces, look up the new Volvo XC40

Considering how pleased we were with the last Volvo we took for a road trip, we were more than excited at the news of the XC40 launching in Malaysia. After all, the premium small SUV wasn’t crowned 2018 European Car of the Year for nothing.

Developed around the challenges of living in a busy city, the XC40 is equipped with Volvo’s award-winning safety, semi-autonomous driving, and infotainment technologies that are well-known with Volvo’s 90s and 60s range; all to make the daily urban commute less stressful.

When it comes to driver assistance systems, it’s packed with technologies such as Pilot Assist (semi-autonomous driving), the latest generation of City Safety (autonomous collision mitigation and avoidance, including pedestrian, cyclist and large animal detection), Run-off-Road Protection and Mitigation, Cross Traffic Alert with Auto Brake, and many more.

When it comes to performance, the 2-litre Drive-E powertrain packs a total output of 252 horsepower, 350 Nm of torque and a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 6.4 seconds.

When it comes to clutter — which we know for some is inevitable — its design is ace. “The new XC40 will also seek to end clutter inside the cabin by carefully designing practical and functional storage areas that were done based on extensive consumer insight,” said Lennart Stegland, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia.

“The core tenet of Scandinavian design is the perfect balance of aesthetics and function. For example, the tunnel is not only designed to be visually pleasing but the cup holders themselves provide areas for coins, card, charging cables and a usable space for your phone which offers wireless charging as well as USB ports,” he continued.

They’ve also moved the speakers from the doors to make space for a laptop and a tablet, or a couple of water bottles. In addition, there are also slots on the dashboard for credit and service cards. Under the armrest is a large storage area with enough room for a tissue box while a special removable bin is included to help passengers discard waste. A small fold-away hook has been added as well to the glove compartment, allowing you to secure small shopping or take-away bags.

The XC40 T5 R-Design — it comes as a standard trim level — is priced at RM255,888 (OTR, without insurance, inclusive of excise duty and sales tax) and is now available for viewing at all authorised Volvo dealers nationwide. For more info, visit Volvo Malaysia’s website.
