Here’s why you’ll definitely love the new All-Electric Mini

For the first time ever in Malaysia, the BMW Group has expanded the premium electrified segment of the Mini portfolio with the introduction of the new All-Electric Mini. Released in conjunction with the British automaker’s 61st birthday, this is the latest electrified variant after the brand first launched the Mini Countryman Plug-in Hybrid in 2017. So, what is it about the All-Electric Mini that’s so enticing?

Let’s first look at the performance. Powered by a front-axle electric engine capable (a version of the synchronous electric motor developed by the BMW Group), the All-Electric Mini is capable of achieving the century sprint in 7.3 seconds and has a top speed of 150 kilometres per hour. In addition to single-speed transmission, the three-door hatch also emits zero carbon emissions locally.

Here’s another fun fact (or two): the All-Electric Mini—with a 12-module T-shaped battery unit—has a driving range of up to 234 kilometres (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure) or 270 kilometres (New European Drive Cycle).

When it comes to charging at home, the vehicle can be charged to 80 per cent in 12 hours with the yellow contingency charging cable whereas recharging at a Direct Current charging station will take about six minutes to go from zero to 80 per cent charge. To view the charging progress of the All-Electric Mini, all you have to do is check the inside of the charging flap.

As for its design, you will notice that the All-New Electric Mini—accentuated by elements in the Energetic Yellow offering is identical in size to the Mini Cooper S. The model is also equipped with a model-specific bumper and radiator grille in Vigorous Grey with yellow E-Badge. If you’re opting for the Lights package, the vehicle comes with Matrix LED headlights and LED rear lights bearing the Union Jack design.

In addition to the seven-inch wheels in the Mini Electric Power Spoke two-tone with run flat tyres, the All-Electric Mini also consists of interior and exterior mirrors with anti-dazzle function, E-Badge on the side scuttle, a charging flap with embossed E-badge, and model-specific rear bumper with diffuser.

On the inside, you will find elements such as the Mini Electric Cockpit Fascia, Mini Electric Start and Stop button in yellow, Mini Electric velour floor mats, an electronic selector lever with Electric design, brake energy recuperation toggle, and interior rear-view mirror with anti-dazzle function.

Apart from that, the All-Electric Mini also comes with Leather Cross Punch seats in Carbon Black, Mini 12-Colour Illuminated ambient lighting, multifunction sport leather steering wheel, a 8.8-inch Mini Navigation System equipped with the full Mini Connected suite, 12-Speaker Harman Kardon Sound System, as well as a Digital Instrument Cluster (for the first time ever in a Mini vehicle).

What are your thoughts on the All-Electric Mini? If you’re ready to be enticed, you’d love this next bit. There are three available colours to choose from: White Silver with Energetic Yellow pairing, British Racing Green, and Chili Red. Available in Malaysia from 26 August 2020, the All-Electric Mini is priced at RM218,380.78.
