SAMSUNG THE FRAME TV

HUAWEI PURA 70 ULTRA – REVIEW
“Launched last month, the Huawei Pura 70 Series made headlines its collection of latest devices sporting significant upgrades. Featuring the Huawei Pura 70, Pura 70 Pro, Pura 70 Pro+ and Pura 70 Ultra, these nifty gadgets make up the rebranded P series which offer a captivating blend of innovation, artistry, and exceptional performance. I recently got my hands on Huawei’s flagship model, the Pura 70 Ultra, to test out for a month—keep reading for my thoughts below.
“From the get go, the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra is a stunning smartphone to look at. It comes in three colourways of brown, black and green—the latter of which I think makes the device even more premium and elegant to the touch thanks to its starry pattern and embossed texture. Furthermore, the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra is made even more durable with the Crystal Armor Kunlun Glass which is scratch and drop resistant of up to 300 times more than normal glass.
“Of course, the real star of the show is the camera on the Pura 70 Ultra. Sitting on an XMAGE label that outlines the brand’s unique Forward Symbol Design, it has a distinctive Ultra Lighting Pop-out Camera lens that is accented with a unique red ring. I can’t deny that the mechanical sound it makes as it pop outs is satisfying and quite addictive! I like that it also doesn’t protrude all that much and the smartphone only sits at a slight tilt when laid flat down.
“Huawei’s P Series has always been a pioneer in mobile photography, setting several standards such as introducing Night Mode and dual camera systems into the market. The Pura 70 Ultra continues this legacy. The smartphone is equipped with the industry’s first Ultra Lighting Pop-up Camera, featuring a 50 megapixel retractable primary shooter that achieves a one-inch image sensor and a large aperture in a compact body. The results is a revolutionary imaging system that is able to capture photo-realistic images in stunning detail and speed.
“With the periscope telephoto aperture that can be manually adjusted from F4.0 to F1.6, I’m able to achieve incredible bokeh effects right on the spot. It also has superb light-gathering abilities which produces full focal HD photography across the entire focal length. In the primary shooter, I particuarly enjoy the 3.5x zoom lens as it is just so usable in various environments and different subjects.
“However, you’ll find that objects from a great distance will also prove to not be an issue as the Ultra Lighting Macro Telephoto Camera can produce clear images and videos without losing any detail. As someone who frequently covers music festivals and concerts, the Pura 70 Ultra will come in super handy in these situations.
“Arguably, the most impressive camera technology on the Pura 70 Ultra is its ability for action shots and capturing fast-moving objects. Using the industry’s first Huawei XD Motion Engine and Ultra Speed Snapshot feature, the smartphone creates clean images with little to no motion blur (especially in good lighting) in just its standard mode alone. For example, check out how its powerful camera processing and nippy shutter speed produced a still image of my portable fan going at full speed! So if you’re always struggling to capture moments of your children or pets that scurry around, the Pura 70 Ultra is perfect for you.
“On the other hand, I do have to mention the elephant in the room. Can you use the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra despite its restrictions and sanctions? While you won’t find the Google Play Store in the smartphone or many of Google’s native apps such as Youtube and Gmail, there have been significant improvements in Huawei’s App Gallery. Applications such as Maybank, WhatsApp and Instagram are available. To find an app that is not available in the App Gallery, you can find it on Petal Search and download it as an APK. However, as with most APK apps, they may not work smoothly as my Spotify tends to crash. But it is not to say that it’s impossible to use, you will just need to go through several more steps to get to the apps you need.
“All in all, the Pura 70 Ultra has been a delight to use during the past month. With its revolutionary camera technology, improved app gallery, sleek design and whip-fast performance, I do think that it’s a powerful smartphone befitting its premium price tag.
