Met Gala 2019: The most scene-stealing headpieces on the pink carpet

You’ve seen what celebrities wore, the most on-theme looks on the red carpet, and even the most head-turning beauty moments that ran the gamut from outrageous to straight-up stunning—but let’s take a closer look at all the larger-than-life deets at the Met Gala last night.

If hair accessories and headgear are the hallmark of campy best-dressed-ness, plenty of A-listers were likely to be on that list with the most extravagant toppers and hairdos. Kitsch came in the form of Cara Delevingne—whose headpiece had an assortment of weird including bananas, dentures, eggs, and eyeballs; Tracee Ellis Ross‘ picture-perfect frame, a stack of hats atop Janelle Monae‘s head, and Lupita Nyong’O‘s ceiling-high ‘fro that was stuffed with gold picks.

On the opposite end of extreme were flashy—yet notably tamer—looks by the likes of Emily Blunt, Gabrielle Union, Gal Gadot and more. What likely gave other guests whiplash (pun intended) was probably Tessa Thompson‘s dominatrix-inspired look featuring her train-long ponytail as a whip. Kudos go to stars who were literally bearing significant weight, including Celine Dion, with a 22-pound headpiece to complement her Oscar de la Renta ensemble, and Katy Perry, who pretty much lit up the pink carpet with a battery-operated chandelier dress and matching headgear.
