The best lip colours that will complete your look for Raya 2019

From lipsticks that pack a punch with just one swipe to lip glosses that are revving our excitement for the trend’s resurgence, these lip colours are the perfect finishing touches to your Raya 2019 ensemble. Our favourites include Estée Lauder’s promising new release that’s pretty much the epitome of an all-in-one lipstick, Hourglass’ lip gloss range that will give your pout a voluminous effect, and Shiseido’s hybrid lippies that are bringing new meaning to tinted lip balms.

Shop these now for your Raya 2019 beauty look:

Estée Lauder Pure Color Desire Rouge Excess Lipstick

If bold colour, lasting comfort and a creamy-rich formula are what you’re looking for in a lipstick, add Estée Lauder’s new lipstick to your shopping cart, stat. The new Pure Color Desire is everything you need and want in a lipstick, with 25% intense pure pigment, eight-hour-long colour impact and two finishes (creamy satin and creamy pearl shine). We swatched a couple of these babies and one swipe was all it took for the colour to pop.

Buro’s pick: “I love that it’s very pigmented—all I did was glide it once on my lips and the colour payoff delivered beautifully. It lasted a good few hours and didn’t feather out, which was impressive. Also, a breeze to apply as I didn’t need a lip brush with this lippie. I tried on Rouge Excess – Creme and I find that it’s a very versatile red that you can wear from day to night.” – Gwen Ong, Deputy Editor

Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel Silky Crème Lipstick

Want a lipstick colour range that can go with every look, occasion and mood in the book? Laura Mercier’s Rouge Essentiel Silky Crème Lipstick won’t disappoint you. This new lipstick is a stunner—both in design and formula. Algae extracts help to moisturise and prep the lips to allow optimum colour intensity, and the crème formula reportedly lasts up to six hours without settling into the lines. We love that it comes in 30 shades across five colour categories—Nude, Coral, Pink, Red, and Purple.

Buro’s pick: “My choice is Rouge Électrique, an orange red that’s stunning if you’re looking for a red that will absolutely pop in pictures (and if your complexion is on the paler side). I didn’t prime my lips before application, and the lipstick glided on smoothly without dragging on my lips. I can happily attest to the no-settling/budging/feathering, and it lasted on throughout the night without evidently fading.” – Loh Wei Yeen, Senior Beauty Writer

Shiseido ColourGel LipBalm Moisturising Lipstick

You don’t have to eschew comfort for colour when it comes to lipsticks—just use Shiseido’s new range of balm-lipstick hybrids that feels every bit like a lip balm, but with a semi-sheer coverage akin to a lip tint. A patented humectant technology in the formula leaves lips feeling softer and healthier, and it comes in 15 shades that are inspired by nature indigenous to Japan.

Buro’s pick: “I’m not the biggest sucker for pink to fuchsia-based lipsticks but for some reason, I was drawn by 115 – Azalea, a ‘semi-sheer fuchsia’. I found that the colour payoff was more intense than expected—think of it as a fuchsia-pink lipstick that’s has a balmy texture. Love how it felt on my lips without drying it out through the day. I recommend layering a few colours for a subtle ombré finish.” – Loh Wei Yeen, Senior Beauty Writer

Shu Uemura x Maison Kitsuné Matte Supreme Liquid Lipstick (Camo)

Shu Uemura’s second collaboration with Parisian music label and fashion house Maison Kitsuné is made for makeup lovers with a soft spot for pretty packaging. The camo-chic range comprises an eyeshadow palette and lipsticks—one of our favourites is their matte liquid rouge lipsticks that offer a weightless, matte finish, available in eight trendy shades. Sweep it on your lips to find a smudge-resistant, lightweight finish that imparts a high-impact, long-lasting colour.

Buro’s pick: OR 02—a head-turning, burnt orange hue that makes for a statement-making look

Hourglass Unreal High Shine Volumizing Lip Gloss

If the comeback of lip gloss is marked with Hourglass’ new launch, let’s just say that we’d be more than delighted to wear this makeup trend in a heartbeat. This innovative formula gives lips a plumping effect with hyaluronic acid (extra brownie points as it doesn’t sting the lips!) and offers a light-reflecting shimmer in two finishes, sheer shimmer and opaque shine. No need to overline your lips with this lip gloss.

Buro’s pick: “I was worried that this might be a tad bit tacky (as per the usual lip gloss), but surprise surprise—it’s not sticky at all. It doesn’t feel too tacky on the lips, and it stays on really well for a gloss. I love that it fills out the fine lines and gave my lips a pouty look (not to mention, a tingling minty sensation). It has the pigment of a liquid lipstick but with a lightness of a gloss sans a sticky feeling. Go for Sublime if you’re looking for a versatile nude with rose undertones.” – Alyssa Lee, Special Projects Writer
