Mini-trend: Metallic cat-eyes that are the very definition of low-key drama

The classic winged eye gets a summer-ready update this season by way of sparkle and shine, as seen on celebrities most recently. Cara Delevingne already demonstrated an easy breezy way of elevating your cat eye (in a swoon-worthy shade of denim blue) last week, but for makeup lovers (and anyone who’s not afraid of glitter), consider playing with metals for a traffic-stopping effect.

A week ago, actress Lucy Boynton aka our favourite beauty risk-taker who’s tried everything from hologram graphic eyes to cross-hatched lashes, took on this trend and made it her own with the help of makeup artist Jo Baker. Her “galactic kitty wings” were made up of spiked wings with metallic silver over her lids, inspired by a swallow’s forked tail. Just look at the meticulous detailing of the double swooshes in the video below:

Boynton isn’t the only fan of this low-key dramatic look. British actress Laura Harrier attended a film premiere in London two days later sporting—you guessed it—metallic silver eyeshadow over a subtle winged liner coupled with full lashes, complementing her futuristic-chic Louis Vuitton look.

But our personal favourite has got to be rapper and actress Awkwafina’s gold-speckled eyes—proof that monolids can totally rock metallic hues and elongated winged liners. Makeup artist Matin dusted her eyelids with loose gold glitter in the shape of a cat-eye and kept her complexion and lips naturally flushed and tinted respectively to let her peepers do all the talking. Which variation of this mini-trend are you most keen to try?
